I have been asked a few times what qualifications I am studying towards with t4ts, so I decided I would write a quick post to list them. I am personally studying the Full scope Electrical installer programme. This will include the following:
Industry certification in Essential Electrics.
Emergency First aid certificate.
Part P Defined scope.
C&G 2377 - Certificate for in service Portable Appliance Testing.
C&G 2382-10 Certificate- 17th Edition of the IEE wiring regulations.
Full scope part p theory and practical qualification assessments.
Logic Certification- Domestic Periodic Inspection Report.
C&G 2391 Practical Exam.
C&G 2391 Written Exam.
AM2 Test level 2
C&G 2357-NVQ (replacing the C&G 2330 levels 2 and 3 and the 2356 NVQ 3).
Of course, to complete the 2357 I will need to find employment in the industry, and be assessed in the workplace.
Before anyone mentions it, I am aware that there is no such thing as a part P qualification, I am simply listing the structure of the course assessments. :)
I expect the course to take around 3 years, although signing off on the 2357 may take longer due to needing the employment and experience within the industry. I think anyone expecting to do all this in less time is crazy! There's a lot to take in and learn so in my personal view, I'd rather use that 3 years to ensure I'm setting out on the right foot. There is a lot of responsibility when it comes to going into someone's home to lay your hands on their electrics, their safety depends on you doing the job right. That's something any Electrician has to keep in the front of their mind. So when I hear people rushing through a fast track course in 2 weeks then setting up in business as a spark I wonder just how much they've learnt to ensure their customers safety?
I want to be sure in myself I've amassed enough knowledge and experience first. I hope to gain employment with a company that works both in the domestic and commercial and industrial fields. This then will be when the learning can really begin and valuable experience attained.

ReplyDeleteThis is a great post! I have just started on the process of attaining my electrician courses and qualifications and can't wait to become fully qualified. Is it really necessary to take so many courses? I have been looking at the C&G 2391 but is it necessary for the appliance testing certificate as well?
